The plaster around the chimney in the little house was bubbled. It appeared that the chimney had leaked at one point. No big deal, just scrape off the loose paint, add a little plaster and repaint.
Not so fast.
As it turns out, the chimney leaked a little more than a little over a long time. I couldn't tell if the drywall in the ceiling was wet or cold.
The questionable drywall had to go. I didn't want to risk mold growth. The ceiling was not just cold, but damp and it came out easily. Even the plaster on the chimney.
A previous owner put in new studs and drywall to cover a cracked plaster ceiling, so repairing the drywall on the ceiling isn't a big deal.
But the water dripped farther down the wall around the chimney. This part of the closet wall needs to go, too.
Better now than later. Tonight Walt Kowalski and I will get on the roof to repair the chimney so there are no more leaks.
