So many accomplishments

I love work vacations.  I also love no work vacations.

This is the living room.  That wall to the front door had to go.  First we needed to build a support wall.

Here is the support wall.  Now we needed to build our beam.

Here is our beam.  It's three 2x6 boards with a piece of plywood in between each.  A total of 5 boards are screwed together resting on stacked 2x4's.

Then we carefully removed the old wall.

Ta-da!

Now there is a 6-foot entrance into the living room.  Later we will fancy up the last two steps to curve around our new wall.

While I was vacuuming up saw dust and cleaning up nails and screws, Walt Kowalski removed the wall between the laundry room and dining room.

Now that is a room!  But it's not going to stay like that.  The wall wasn't a weight bearing wall so we didn't need to built a support wall first.  Now Walt Kowalski can move the wall slightly and put it in properly.

Here is the wall between the hall entrance and the dining room.  This is the BIG wall that will be removed.  Walt Kowalski is going to start building the support wall today.  We'll create another 2x6 beam and raise it up to support the second floor.  I'm going to need a little help and longer arms.
